March-a-thon Information

UPDATE:

This years March-a-thon was a great success and all band members made it the entire 5 miles!!! Thank you to all those that have donated to this great program and if anyone would like we will gladly accept any post march-a-thon donations.

Please take a minute and look over a few pictures from the march-a-thon.

When:
Saturday, August 28, 2010
Starting at 8:00 am and ending at approximately 1 pm.

What:
The band will march a 5 mile parade route, starting and ending at Groves Elementary off of McCreary Road. We will march through the residential area as shown in the attached map. Afterwards, the Marchers will be bused to the Albertsons parking lot on FM 544 @ Westgate where they will march through Albertsons and Home Depot and perform a mini-concert in their combined parking lot. The students will be dressed in their marching t-shirts, and shorts. They will be escorted by directors, volunteers and police escorts. While marching, the band will perform music including the school’s fight song, and football stand songs.

Why:
The school district has grown, the band has grown. However the band budget has decreased again this year. To provide the same support to all campuses and foster student success through music, the booster budget must increase. This fundraiser has the potential to raise a large amount of donations at one time. This will boost community spirit and bring attention to our fantastic band program.

How Else Can You Support That Wylie Band?
What if there was a parade and nobody came? We need lots of people standing along the parade route to encourage our Marchers. Watch for our signs advertising the March-A-thon, and our route, to start appearing the weekend before. While marching through the residential streets, we will stop to perform for families who contribute a significant amount to the program.

Come see the Marchers as they parade through Albertsons & Home Depot, with a mini-concert in the parking lot!

Donations can also be made during the parade route as well just look for those Marchers carrying their SHAKOS (hats).

How can the Parents help?
Step up & volunteer for this fun event!

Water/Snacks: We will have 2-3 break locations where we will need to feed and hydrate 300 people in about 10 minutes.

Marching Chaperones: Come march with us!

Transportation: We will need at least 4 pickup trucks, a couple golf carts and, if possible, a motor home (medic station). If you have access to any of these, please contact Mark Durbin at 214-536-4928.

Publicity: We will need a group of people willing to place flyers/signs at the homes along our route during the week prior to the march.
